St George's Day

Off to Alton, Hampshire for the "My Own Worst Enemy" DBA competition carrying my selected army of Book IV 83a, Wars of the Roses.  The theme, in honour of the day, was any Army that fought in England.

The army list was:

Army number  IV/83a Wars of the Roses, 1455-1485AD

Terrain Arable

Aggression 1

 Type Number

Gen,     4Bd 1 John Tiptoft, 1st Earl of Worcester

3CV     1

4Bd     4

4Lb     4

Art     1

3Ax (Irish)

Terrain list   Mandatory   Ploughed 2     Optional   River 1 Steep hill 2

The wise amongst you will note there was far too much difficult terrain!

The format was 6 rounds, match-ups randomly drawn in advance, players assigned a number randomly on the day, each odd numbered round you used your own army, each even numbered round you used your opponents.

My record:

  1. Sub-Roman Briton - 9v5 winning draw
  2. Scots Commoner - 5v5 draw
  3. Anglo-Irish - 2v23 loss
  4. Norman - 3v21 Loss
  5. Early Imperial Roman - 3v21 Loss
  6. Anglo-Saxon 21v3 Win

 Take-aways:

  • Far too much bad going and the river really mucked things up
  • I had forgotten Bd follow up - damn
  • My dice luck has not improved!
Excellent day and many thanks to the organiser.
